About

Mary Varghese was born in Nairobi and emigrated with her parents and eight brothers to Australia in 1964. She is a graduate of the University of Queensland, the Australian National University, and Dalhousie University, where she was awarded a PhD for research on Indians in East Africa. She wrote 'Funga Safari' for her family and their descendants, knowing that the story it tells has broader significance, especially in the history of migration and the Indian diaspora. She is married with three children and two grandchildren.
