    About the Book

    Edit

Many people today have a living faith and trust in God but for a variety of reasons do not worship in the local church as in the past. Our age has a growing sense of spiritual dislocation which presents an opportunity to envision a new future. Some worship at home or meet in small groups in the community and this book will provide for them an orthodox form of worship. It is at the same time firmly rooted in the faithful traditions of the Christian Church, biblical, and determined to speak in the language of today. It offers a framework for experiment, week after week as the Christian year unfolds and the great themes of the Liturgy are experienced.

In a time of uncertainty Christians can still be rooted in the faithful history of the church while waiting for God to reveal the future.

    Tony Martin (Dunedin, NZ)
    Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand

Rev Dr Tony Martin is a New Zealander whose vocation has spanned military chaplaincy, parish ministry, mental health leadership, and emergency management. His life of service reflects a deep commitment to people in places of vulnerability — from soldiers under fire to communities in crisis. His military ministry was marked by a rare blend of theological conviction, sacrificial service, and cross-cultural fluency. He did not play at being a chaplain — he lived it, prayed it, and bore its cost. Though he later returned to New Zealand, his years in the British Army shaped not only his faith but the countless lives he accompanied through military operations, uncertainty, and silence. He brings together the mind of a scholar, the heart of a pastor, and the grit of a soldier. His life is one of faithful presence — among troops, in the clinic, at the pulpit, and in the Emergency Coordination Centre. Tony is a minister of the church forged in conflict and tested in faith.
