    About the Book

    Edit

This book was written by 11 and 12 year olds. They attend religion classes on Sundays. Some like being in class some would rather be doing other things.

Jesus taught by telling stories. In an attempt to try to make the classes interesting, I thought why not give them the opportunity to show everyone what they have learned.

Their textbook teaches them how to live by the teachings of Christ. They are taught about discipleship and with this book they have begun to work as young disciples of Christ.

In addition, they have learned life skills of working as a team, providing each other positive criticism as they reviewed and approved or rejected the material. The Editors and Art Department learned additional responsibilties thru leadership, presentations to an audience, and what it means to put in extra effort to make this project come together in a short time period. All the students had to be a contributing writer. They learned how to think and take what they learned about and make it into something to share with others. They learned religion isn't about an hour in church on a Sunday. They learned the feeling of rejection, just as Christ was rejected. They learned the feeling of acceptance, the same as Christ experienced as His followers grew in numbers. Most of all they learned what it is like to be part of a community that cares about others and to find the love that Christ gave us thru his birth, death, and resurrection.

This book is their book. As the instructor, I was their employee, I did the grunt work. The ideas, the art, the text, and efforts are all theirs. They're my kids and I'm proud of what they pulled off in three short weeks that consisted of 4.5 hours of their time. It was truly a project guided by Divine Intervention.

This is truly an example of understanding the the meaning of God's love for us all.
