HARD COVER--Two friends, both professors from northern Wisconsin, travel to Japan on a faculty seminar and return with haiku and waka poems matched with photographs made with a cheap plastic camera (Holga) and black & white film. NEAR THE TORII GATE is an intimate evocation of Japan's ancient wonders and contemporary vitality. It is at the same time an expression of an inner journey, a Zen journey, for each of the authors.
