For forty-two years, two men met for breakfast every Tuesday in the same booth at the Hourglass Diner. They never called it friendship. They never called it anything. It was only the thing that held both their lives together.
This is the story of those Tuesdays, told by four who each saw them from a different side. A man on the last drive of his life, who is not going anywhere he hasn't already been. A stranger at a memorial, reading a whole friendship off the surface of a single afternoon. The dogs who knew one of the men from inside his house, and never knew the diner at all. And the woman who kept the room, and the booth, and never learned their names.
None of them sees the whole of it. Together, they do.
