    About the Book

    Edit

What started as a simple shed in my backyard became something far more magical: a full gingerbread store, a tiny tavern of sorts, where I spent an entire season cooking by the hearth, testing early American recipes, and building a world that felt both historic and enchanted.

The Gingerbread Tavern Cookbook is the story of that place.

Inside, you’ll find the dishes I cooked over the fire, the old-fashioned breads and sweets that warmed the winter days, and the simple, hearty meals inspired by early American kitchens. These are the recipes that filled the tavern with the smell of molasses, cinnamon, cider, and woodsmoke — the flavors of a handmade Christmas.

Woven between the recipes are short Bellewood Christmas tales: gentle, cozy pieces of lore from the village that has become such a part of my creative life. The tavern in my shed and the tavern in Bellewood speak to each other — one real, one imagined, both full of warmth.

This cookbook is part storybook, part hearth-cooking journal, and part celebration of making do, slowing down, and creating something magical from simple things. Whether you cook from it, display it, or curl up with it beside your own fire, The Gingerbread Tavern Cookbook invites you into a Christmas that feels handmade, heartfelt, and a little bit enchanted.
