About the Book
To celebrate the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists (IYRP) in 2026, I've organized 108 photos of nomads I have lived and worked with in the Himalaya, Tibetan Plateau, and Mongolia. Hopefully, this helps to create more awareness of the world's largest ecosystem - rangelands - and the nomads who make a living by raising livestock in these grazing lands. This is a work-in-progress as I still need to finalize an essay about rangelands and nomads I have worked with.

Bought my first camera, a Canon FTb, in 1974 when I went to Nepal for the first time. For most of the last 40 years I have been working with nomads in Afghanistan, Bhutan, China, Mongolia, Nepal and Tibet. Although I still use a Canon F-1 manual camera, I increasingly find the photos on my iPhone to be quite satisfactory.
