About the Book
The United Nations declared 2026 the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists. To help create awareness for the world's largest ecosystem - rangelands - and the people who make a living raising livestock there, I've organized 108 black and white photographs of nomads from my work over the last 50 years in Nepal, Bhutan, Tibet, and Mongolia. THIS IS A WORK IN PROGRESS. I still need to write some text, but the photos are selected and laid out.

Bought my first camera, a Canon FTb, in 1974 when I went to Nepal for the first time. For most of the last 40 years I have been working with nomads in Afghanistan, Bhutan, China, Mongolia, Nepal and Tibet. Although I still use a Canon F-1 manual camera, I increasingly find the photos on my iPhone to be quite satisfactory.
