About the Book
Carlos de los Angeles traveled to Havana in August 2018, spending 4 days there between semesters while studying for his Master's in Occupational Therapy. Fearful of how a newly elected Trump administration could affect travel policies between the U.S. and Cuba, Carlos was eager to document life on the island in case the borders closed again.
Most of his time was spent in the neighborhood of Centro Habana, away from the popular cruise ship port of Habana Vieja. Centro Habana is the most densely populated neighborhood in the country, with streets full of life and energy. Crumbling facades stand shoulder to shoulder with bold color, music spilling rom balconies, and every block seemingly holding its own story.
This book is not a travelogue, but a portrait of place — one seen not through a tourist's lens, but through quiet, observational moments shared in passing. In the faces, gestures, and street corners of Havana, Carlos captures the spirit of a city caught between eras, enduring and expressive, alive in every frame.
