About the Book
A catalog to an exhibition curated by students in "AHI 250: Perspectives on Photography," with essays by Brian Wallis and Näkki Goranin, who were the Krane Resident Scholars in Art History at Connecticut College in Fall 2024.
Behind the Curtain offers a seldom seen view of one of the most prolific forms of vernacular photography - intimate photobooth portraits that reveal poignant moments of self-expression: love, friendship, joy and pride.
The catalog is divided into four thematic sections: Photobooth History; Technology; Collecting; and Art and Artists. Using images, documents, books, toys and more from Goranin's extensive collection, the book explores the unique network of relations among art historical research, art collecting, and art production in Goranin's decades-long immersion in photobooth history.
