About the Creator
BaKari Ifasegun Lindsay, born Eddison B. Lindsay in Trinidad, West Indies, is a multidisciplinary artist and educator with over 30 years of experience. A dancer, choreographer, musician, costume designer, and researcher, BaKari’s work bridges traditional and contemporary art forms. He trained at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and The School of Toronto Dance Theatre and earned a Master’s in Dance Ethnology and a Bachelor of Education from York University, Canada. BaKari developed “Afeeree The Physical Language,” a unique movement technique blending Africanist and contemporary aesthetics. As a co-founder of COBA (Collective of Black Artists) and a former performer with notable dance companies, BaKari’s contributions to the arts are celebrated internationally. Currently a Vice Principal, he integrates artistry and education to inspire resilience and creativity. His memoir, In Healing Steps: A Dance with Destiny, shares his transformative journey of healing and hope.
