    JOHN ELLIOTT
    DALLAS, OREGON, UNITED STATES

    Born in Chicago at a very young age, I eventually received a B.A. from the U. of Dubuque, IA, married my wife Barbara, and began teaching in a Chicago suburb. After several years of teaching there, we moved to Colorado to heal my lung ailments, begin raising our two daughters, and complete our M.A. degrees. During those years I began driving professionally in my "spare" time to keep bread on the table while my wife tended to the girls. My teaching career ended after 25 years when I joined many others who could no longer cope with the direction of American education. I enjoyed teaching the language and writing and seeing kids learn. I had been a department chair for 20 years and a member of the Colorado Writing Project of the 1980's. At that point I went to driving full time, an education of much broader scope, until we moved to the Oregon Coast and retirement. Now I can find time to do what many have asked me to do for decades after reading much of my diddling: Write!
