    About the Book

    Edit

Infrared (IR) photography offers an opportunity to explore a new world – the world of the unseen. Why a world unseen? Our eyes cannot see infrared light because it lies just beyond what is classified as the visible spectrum which human eyesight can detect. When we take photographs using infrared film or converted cameras we are exposed to a world that can often look very different from what we are used to seeing. Leaves, plants, man-made materials, natural materials, human skin, and hair reflect or absorb IR light in unique and surprising ways. These effects are often unpredictable and typically cannot be easily replicated using photo editing software. The unique characteristics seen with landscapes, seascapes, urban images, architecture, sculptures, human and animal portraits, natural objects, and manmade objects photographed in the IR spectrum make for fascinating images.

This is one of a series of books the author is writing on infrared photography. The author presents key concepts covering spectrums of light along with methods, techniques, and equipment for creating and editing infrared photographic images. The book series applies concepts and techniques to multiple genres of photography and provides many examples through an extensive collection of images.
