    About the Book

    Edit

How could a person really believe they could talk to angels? How could someone have a genuine conviction that they lived in Pompeii in a past life? How could people actually believe superstitions like knocking on wood? How could anyone, even a three year old, be completely convinced that an imaginary friend was real? And why does everyone George Jackson knows believe something so irrational?

George tries to distance himself from that sort of thing. Ridiculous ideas like these complicate his orderly existence. But then he starts to see that almost everyone has some belief that’s not completely reasonable, and to wonder if it is more than just irrationality.

And so, in the sequel to What We Believe, we find the self assured Mr. Jackson confused. People clearly have logical reasons for what they believe, no matter how ludicrous their beliefs may seem. Even logic is controversial, and even the way George thinks comes from a story.
