In the world of art, where much has already been said, where traditions and modern trends sometimes compete and also possibly combine in a common theme, we were looking for a fulcrum point — a connection that would allow past and present to exist within one space. The exhibition, “The Art of Pastel” is filled with love for graphics, color and line. Pastel has a unique language of its own and is a medium which comes to life from the fingertips of the artist. Pastel can emit light, transparency, line, and can be matt, tonal or colorful. It can reflect reality or lead one into abstraction. The technique is self-sufficient, with its own history. The Penza Art Gallery contains a large collection of pastel paintings, parts of which are included in this exhibition, intertwining history, traditions, and time. The contemporary collection is interesting for people who want to learn more about the development of pastel, its new possibilities and wide geography.
