    About the Book

    Edit

Frustrated by the inability to meet with colleague members of our camera club FKS (FotoKring Stein) a plan was devised to still allow us to carry out our photography hobby and (digitally) meet, greet, discuss our work and support each member of the workgroup.
For myself the project went off like a rocket, I had plenty of ideas to work on and within a few weeks I had several excellent series of photographs lined up. Sure, they were all really strong series, technically perfect, clearly showing my signature, but there was something missing…
For as long as I can remember I have been very impressed with the work by artist Martin Hill and his partner Philippa Jones. They photograph temporary sculptures in the landscape. The most notable one is the ‘stone circle’ in Lake Taupo, New Zealand, of a half circle of impossible balancing pebbles, perfectly reflected in the water. This kind of art is known as ‘land art’ and in its purest form elements from the landscape are used to make temporary pieces of art in the landscape they originate from.

This is something I wanted to do as well and still in November 2020, the working title of my series changed to “Land Art Maas Valley Project”. A wonderful next three months would follow, crafting circles of leaves, different versions of stone or pebble circles, as well as sourcing a wreath and sphere from willow branches.

In this book I have chosen to accompany every set of photos of a specific land art object with a short message. Although there is a serious undertone in the notes, they are still light to digest and are a combination of some word play, some old and some newfound wisdom
