    About the Book

    Edit

Home Dachaigh Domus is based on the 23rd Psalm. The psalm's stanzas being reproduced in English, Gaelic and Latin, the artwork title is "home" in these three languages. This use of language reflects the history of published Bibles within Scotland; initially Latin then English/Orcadian and finally Gaelic.

The 23rd Psalm has a long history within Scotland, first appearing in the The Scottish Psalter of 1635. It was taken up by generations of Scottish soldiers; expressing their wish to return safely home to Scotland. It is part of the myth surrounding Scottish Soldiers.

The images are presented as six diptychs, meditations on Hugh Hamilton’s contemporary life as part of the Scottish diaspora and his own wish to return home; Home, Memory, Family, End, Forgive and Retrace.
